Colorful Rustic Engagement Session

These days seem to be going by quicker than instant oatmeal, but I’m blissfully enjoying the ride! Today calls for a photography flashback and we’re journeying back to one of the most popular colorful engagement sessions featured on the blog. The following rustic engagement session was captured by an incredibly talented photographer named Lanie of Lanie Lousie Photography! Today’s session features a lovely couple named Sara and Casey, more of how they met and their story can be found below. I personally have always been in love with photography ever since I picked up a  camera given to me by my father during my 8th grade year. I can definitely appreciate a photographer’s work and the depth of their craft because I enjoy the same passion. I first stumbled upon Lanie’s work by browsing photographers sessions and I instantly connected to her photos. She is able to capture the essence of her subjects with such great detail, and that is why I adore her work.

Meet Lanie:

I am a college student from California who has found a passion in photography. Through my lenses, I strive to capture every moment and beautiful feature of my clients — their personality, styles, sparks … everything. I hope to mirror God’s handiwork in each person I photograph to show that person how beautiful they are in God’s eyes. Photography is my passion, whether I am shooting portraits, landscapes, still life or weddings. Nothing is more satisfying than snapping an incredible photo. I hope I can be apart of your life artistically and creatively through my camera.

In the cutest way possible, he asked me if I would go on a date with him. I don’t remember the exact words, but I remember him saying something about maybe going to play laser tag or bowling and have some fun and grab some dinner after. I thought it was too cute, but I was completely shocked.

Sara and Casey, both strong Christians, met one fateful day in college and are now about to graduate college in May. They first met Lanie through a study abroad program, now Lanie and Sara are actually roommates and what can I say the rest is photography history. You can read more about Sara by visiting her blog here.

Sara and Casey’s Story

That fateful day happened to be in Hughes chapel the next semester when I walked in looking for my assigned seat and noticed something, the cute guy in the back of class from last semester sat RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. I didn’t have the nerves to say hello so I kept quiet and stayed in my seat, but not for long. Finally, after a few services, he turned around, we made eye contact and could no longer pretend we didn’t see each other. With the cutest grin he said, “Oh hey, I didn’t know you sat behind me,” I followed pursuit and said the same story with a smile, “neither did I.” (Of course I did, he sat right in front of me. But come to find out, he knew I sat there the entire time too).

Over the course of the semester our paths would continue to cross and we would have a few moments of interaction. Mostly just sweet little “hello’s” walking to and from class. Until one day. My absolute favorite day in history of all days me and Casey, February 13th, the day Casey stopped me dead in my tracks. I had just left the cafeteria and was on my way to my dorm when I looked to my right and noticed Casey walking towards the Library. I had no reason to go the library but I really wanted to “accidentally bump into him.” There was just something about him that drew me in. Maybe it was his smile, maybe it was all of his “hello’s,” they were so sweet. I wanted to know more.

I quickly decided to just go for it, hoping he would turn around and notice me. I began walking towards him, and he happened to turn around and say hello! (Later I found out he was actually the one waiting for me to come out of the cafeteria. He had been done with his food long before me, but waited for me to finish so he could “bump into me.” We both were thinking the same idea! I just didn’t know he had already been planning this moment long before me) Casey and me walked and talked just long enough to reach the entrance to the Library (Asbury is small campus, so this walk was maybe a few hundred feet, just enough for the longest conversation we had to date) when he stopped and asked me a question, a question that completely took me by surprise.

In the cutest way possible, he asked me if I would go on a date with him. I don’t remember the exact words, but I remember him saying something about maybe going to play laser tag or bowling and have some fun and grab some dinner after. I thought it was too cute, but I was completely shocked. The only words that came out of my mouth was “really?” (Again, I was completely shocked I could have fallen over right there!) I bit my lip because I was scared to go on a date. I was well aware of my fragile heart and I was determined to stay single ALL of college and even considering staying single for a long…long time after. But here, standing in front of me, was this completely charming guy who I barely knew asking me out on a date. Though I wanted to avoid it, in my heart I knew there was something different I couldn’t resist. I was excited to take a risk and quickly answered with a simple, “Yes, I would love to.”

We were both so nervous while we quickly exchanged numbers and went on our way. I felt like a little girl again, my stomach was full of butterflies, and I was as giddy as ever as I ran straight to one my best friends, Taylor’s room where we both jumped around with excitement. I was going on a date. This was something I didn’t think would happen without me putting great detailed thought into. I was taken by surprise and I couldn’t help but notice something was very different about this guy. With a heavy heart, I became wide-eyed, my palms were sweaty, and I anxiously waited for the days to pass for our first date. I think I knew something big was about to happen, I just didn’t know what. I just knew, without a doubt in my mind, something was different…

Though I didn’t want him to, because I wanted to avoid letting someone in, he captured my heart on our first date and there was no turning back. No one before treated me with such grace, no one pursued my heart with such determination, no one before wanted to know every thought on my mind, and no one before listened to every word I spoke with such focus and attention. To this day, no one has tried to figure me out as well as Casey has. The moment he opened the car door for me, I stepped into his life and from that day forward we have been traveling on a journey that neither of us expected. But oh how we both have hoped and prayed for it. Casey has shown me the most tender love—a love that I am blessed by each and every day. He is a special gift made especially for me. When I describe Casey to others I say he is like a deep well. The more and more time I spend time with him the deeper he takes me in his heart. Each day is like a gift, I get to experience his love and his heart deeper than the day before. I love that about him. He continues to keep me on my toes, just when I think I have him figured out, he has so so much more to offer.

Hope you guys enjoyed reading more about Sara and Casey’s story and viewing this colorful rustic engagement session in today’s weekend flashback.
